Redesigning this now urban cool bar / restaurant in 6 weeks just before Christmas was definitely a challenge.
We had to call some favours from some of our regular suppliers to assist with coordinating and making the furniture in such a tight time frame
Gilley’s Bar and Restaurant located in the Orchard Avenue Surfers Paradise and well known for its position as the old ‘Avenue’.
The brief for the interior was a bar/restaurant that would open at 10am and go through to 3am. The bar was to have live musicians and DJ’s playing, the atmosphere was to be fun and entertaining. The interior hallways to the bathrooms were to stay and the old tiles incorporated into the new interior.
Upon our first visit to the ‘all black’, dilapidated venue that housed hundreds of pigeons, we really wondered whether we could pull this one off in the requested time frame, with trades, furniture suppliers and removalists all being ridiculously inundated with the Christmas rush and wind down.
However, we achieved the goal and challenge set and the impressive bar/restaurant with its urban cool graffiti plant wall, the first ever custom-made terracotta breeze blocks supplied by Austral Masonry and the first ever full split stone bar, the venue opened its doors with a bang.
