Well Bread & Pastry - Gold Coast, Australia

After relocating from Melbourne to the Gold Coast to start on his new venture, sustainably sourced ingredients were integral to the finished product for my clients slow fermented breads that are packed full of minerals and beneficial microbes. His pastries, some taking up to 3 days to perfect, now I’ve sampled, are to die for. Yes, we are talking about a Bakery.

As interior designers we learn about the importance of sustainable projects, therefore if we can educate others just a little of its importance, I’m happy. However, this time the word ‘sustainable, sustainable, sustainable’, was mentioned multiple times during the brief and kept playing over in my head, so the design intent for the project took that very direction and I couldn’t have been more ecsatic.

After our client spent up large on his dream kitchen appliances, it was integral to retain the interior design initially planned and manage the budget in play. New timber, during the Covid pandemic was not only expensive, there was a country shortage. Sustainable, definitely took priority; exploring, hunting and gathering through local recycled timber yards was not only fun, it was extremely rewarding sourcing materials, then finally erecting them to fruition to create our presented and approved design. Utilising, Concrete’s, old timber planks, old doors, beams, timber logs, along with our fabulous colour choice; Flinders green, we managed to generate a beautiful, raw and earthy interior scope.

It worked simultaneously with what Well Bread Bakery was all about. Working as a Gold Coast based interior designer our residential interior design projects along with our commercial interior designs, tend to lean more toward designing indoor/outdoor spaces, this project mastered not only that, it also managed to adorn a charming and sustainable design.

It was a very accomplished outcome.

Sustainability takes ‘forever’ and that’s the point.
